This lifestyle is all I know. I’m talking about early morning “big-wheel” races up and down the driveway to 100 mile ultra-marathons and everything in between.

I strive to move this profession forward with no gimmicks while educating our athletes to make informed training and nutrition decisions based on research, assessments and realistic training principles for both general and specific programming.

Overtime, I have learned that there is no one right way.  The truth is forever unfolding and thus, so must one’s training philosophy. What works today may not work tomorrow, and what works for me may be less than ideal for you.  If you have questions, comments, and/or concerns don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

Vincent has been involved in the fitness industry for over a decade.  He has trained clients, managed clubs and owned a business during that time.  Vincent is a competitive age-group athlete who competes in a variety of events ranging in distance from 5k road races, to Ironman distance triathlons and ultra marathons. Vincent has also placed in his weight class at various all natural body building competitions.

Dubbed as “The Average Joe,” I was once a beer-drinking, cigarette smoking 310 pound guy. Through running and exercise I lost over 118 pounds in just under a year. Genuinely believing in the fight of the human spirit, I am an under dog by nature and can’t help myself in living life and leaving no obstacle untested. I use this same energy and desire towards sound training and smart decisions. Being a husband to a crossfitting wife and a father to three beautiful little girls, I find it a breath of fresh air knowing that a healthy lifestyle is a very important lesson and is neither elusive nor exclusive. Crossfit has brought a new understanding of fitness and wellness to our community. I welcome anyone interested who is an underdog to test your limits and come out victorious.

Never leave anything for the swim back.

It may be a cheesy paraphrase of a scene in the geeky [but all time great] sci-fi movie Gattaca.  And, you may drown if you take it literally.  But, not a day goes by where that thought doesn’t go through my head.  Why?  Because for me, it serves as a clear reminder of the level of effort that I strive to put forth in everything I do.

I have competed in sports my entire life.  Beginning with little league as a young buck, diving in high school, and rugby all through college and right on up through about 10 years of rugby after college, I have always been part of a team.  That seemingly came to a conclusion after my 4th ACL reconstruction in 2008.  After initially feeling sorry for myself post-op, I made a commitment to myself.  I would never say the words, “I used to be able to do ____________.”  Not when I was recovering and rehabbing, and certainly not as I get older.  I made a commitment to make myself faster and stronger.  CrossFit became my training program of choice to help me accomplish that goal.  As a fitness program that greets you at your current fitness level, and pushes you forward, I believe there is nothing better.  At Elm City, we strive to provide you with top notch programming, training and encouragement.  Complimented with your dedication and determination, everyone can push beyond their previous notions of physical and mental capacity.

As an athlete, I never leave anything for the swim back.  As a coach, I encourage you to do the same.  Go all out, always!  Push yourself to the limits, and give everything you’ve got.  Why worry about swimming back, when you can see what’s on the other side?

You may know me already…I am the girl always smiling while I am running.  I have a love for exercise that I can’t hide.

Growing up with an older brother I was always trying to “hang” with the boys so, my competitive nature has always been there.  I played Softball and Field Hockey growing up, but found my true passion in 2004 when introduced to the world of multisport.  I fell in love with it instantly.  I then became curious… “If I trained, what could I actually accomplish?”  Since then…I never looked back.  I am always striving be better, faster, stronger and at 38, not only do I want…I need to constantly be looking for ways to improve my strength and fitness.  In 2009 I found my missing link..CrossFit.  Crossfit has made me an overall better athlete by strengthing my weaknesses and making my strengths even stronger.  So allow me to share my love and passion with you and disprove the myths that you can’t work hard and have fun.

Fitness and nutrition have been a part of my lifestyle for as long as I can remember. Having been a rower since the age of 13, I have participated in numerous athletic events nationally and internationally. After my collegiate rowing career ended, I think my story is similar to most. I would hit the “globo” gym and participate in athletic events (snowboarding, beach volleyball, road races) here and there, but my level of fitness was nowhere near what it used to be. Fast forward through years of the same routine, I was introduced to CrossFit through a friend. After getting over a full week of soreness, I was hooked. CrossFit has allowed me to rediscover my prior fitness potential and push me towards a much higher level of athleticism. As an athlete, I'm a believer that CrossFit is the ideal program for a person at any level to achieve their maximum potential. As a coach, I'm excited for the opportunity to guide others to (re)discover themselves through CrossFit and push them towards greatness.

Since the day I popped out of the womb, which I know wasn’t long ago, sports have been my life.  While most children were watching cartoons when they were seven, I was religiously watching Sportscenter.  I played every sport my parents would allow.  However, the one sport that transformed my life was football.  It was more than just a game to me. It was the practices that I never want to remember, those Friday nights I’ll never have again, and those brothers that I never had before.  The glory days ended and reality set in. I couldn’t have a cupcake without it going to my hips. Shortly after coming to this conclusion I jumped around a few globo-gyms until I was introduced to Elm City CrossFit. It was only after a week that I was unable to walk, but I was hooked. It may have been the shenanigans that reminded me of the old locker room, but it filled a void that I was missing since football ended. Like football,  Elm City CrossFit has been a lot more than just a gym to me.  The discipline, competition and camaraderie that CrossFit has shown me keeps me motivated to attain the goals set.  As the “Baby” of the group I look forward to not only growing as an athlete, but also as a coach.

Throughout my childhood and adolescence I played sports, soccer and baseball being the two big ones.  Once I got into high school though I began gaining weight and soccer was no longer an option; missing the feeling of being on a team I began playing football.  Football gave me that team feeling and also introduced me to one of my passions, weightlifting.  By moving big weight I started gaining confidence in myself that I hadn’t had since my skinnier days as a soccer player.  However, I went from 185 lbs my freshman year to 270 by the time I graduated.  When I got to college I realized that being 270 lbs was no way to get girls, so I began seriously dieting.  But because I had now begun to favor smoking and drinking to exercise I did it in a very unhealthy way; eating less than 1000 calories a day.  I dropped the weight quickly, going from 270 to 195 by spring break of my freshman year, but was very unhealthy.  Eventually, this type of diet caught up with me and the weight began coming back.  By the time I graduated college I was back up to 250 lbs and very depressed.  I tried all of my old tricks, lifting and extreme dieting, but none of these methods seemed to work for me anymore.  After about a year and a half of doing this unsuccessfully I saw a infomercial for P90X.  I totally bought into it and thought that I had finally found the answer to all of my problems.  Once again disappointment came, this time from my own lack of effort; I had never thought of how hard it would be to motivate myself to work out alone in my living room but that turned out to be the fatal flaw for me and that program.

One day I happened to run into one of my old roommates from college who had been bigger than me.  He was now 185 lbs and was in amazing shape; he told me that he had started CrossFit the previous year and that through a combination of diet and CrossFit he had dropped nearly 100 lbs!  He also told me that the actors in the movie 300 did CrossFit to get into shape for their roles.  From that moment I was sold.  I found Elm City CrossFit later that week and scheduled my introductory class.  From the moment I began doing CrossFit style workouts I was hooked; they gave me the competitive feeling that I had been missing since my years of playing sports and yet made me push my physical limits like I never had before.

It has been almost 2 years since I started CrossFit and I have gone from a 1-1 ½ pack a day smoker who couldn’t run more than a mile without feeling like he was going to die to someone whose idea of a good time is participating in adventure type races.  While I may have not reached my goal of physical appearance just yet, I feel better physically at 27 years old then I ever have before.  My overall fitness, and confidence in myself and what I am capable of have drastically improved and I owe it all to the coaches at Elm City CrossFit who have pushed my countless time beyond what I thought were my limits.  It has become my passion; to the point where I became certified to be an instructor with the hope that I can help others achieve their goals the way that I have.
